Firside Tournament

Mulbarton U9s took two teams for the early morning start of the Firside Tournament on Sunday 14th June 2009; the Mulbarton Tigers who normally play in the Norwich League, and the Mulbarton Lions who play in the South Norfolk League.
The standard of football from all teams was incredibly high, and the pace was frenetic; with only 5 mins either way it also meant that final scores were very close.
Both the Tigers and the Lions went through to the semi-finals unbeaten, with both teams then facing Firside opponents! Both games went to extra time, and then to penalty shoot outs, with the Tigers unfortuantely losing out but the Lions came away triumphant after 12 or more close and nerve wracking penalties each. All credit to Firside A for a close game and penalty shoot-out, the two teams were very evenly matched and the game could have so easily been won by either team.

The Lions faced Firside B in the final, who they drew with in the group stage, and again a very close game saw a one goal win, scored by Olly, in the second half of extra time.

Well done to all the boys in both teams, a credit to Mulbarton to get both teams to the semi's, with both teams unbeaten!

U9s in Tournament Action

Wanderers Mulbarton put three sides into the 8-sided tournament; U9 teams from the Norwich Division and the South Norfolk Division and an U8s team. All the games were played at a very fast pace, and reflected the fitness of all players, coming at the end of a long season for most.

The South Norfolk Division team came through a nail-biting semi-final penalty shoot out against Wymondham, with both teams very evenly matched, to get to the final against Dereham. In the final, Robbie's goal was besieged by Dereham and he saved three or four times more than the final score of 1-4 suggests. Owen squeezed a last minute goal to give the Mulbarton boys some consolation.

Well done lads!
