Belles Ladies kicked off the new season at home to Bungay Town.
The game started off slowly, with Mulbarton and Bungay not wanting
to make any mistakes. Both teams created a few chances at goal,
including a Mulbarton "goal" being dis-allowed by the referee as having
not crossed the line. The 1st half finished 0-0.
Mulbarton were the more positive team after the break, and scored
immediately with a well taken goal from Sarah Woodrow, who took her time
and picked her spot. Mulbarton then piled on the pressure and eventually
scored a second goal through Harriet Rudd's determination to win the
ball. Her hard work allowed Alice Ladbrooke to receive the ball, and get
through the Bungay defence to calmly place the ball in the net.
Rachael Wharton and Lyndsey Howard kept the Belles in the game on
several occasions, working hard in central defence to clear the ball
away from danger. However, with only a few minutes remaining, Bungay
Town pulled a goal back after the Belles defence allowed the ball to be
played into the box. This led to a few tense minutes, but the Belles
managed to hold on for a 2-1 win.
Player of the Match goes to Rachael Wharton.
